IELTS vs PTE 2026: Which Test Should You Take?

We coach both IELTS and PTE at our Jalandhar centre, so we have no bias — here is the practical difference in 2026.
The key differences
- Format: IELTS Academic offers paper or computer, with a face-to-face speaking interview. PTE Academic is fully computer-based — you speak into a microphone and AI scores it.
- Results: PTE results typically arrive within about 2 days; IELTS takes roughly 3–13 days depending on format.
- Scoring: IELTS uses bands 0–9; PTE uses a 10–90 scale. Most universities publish equivalents for both.
- Acceptance: IELTS remains the most universally accepted. PTE Academic is accepted for Canadian study permits (since 2023), and widely across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Which one suits you?
- Choose IELTS if you're more comfortable speaking to a human examiner, or your target institution/visa stream specifically lists IELTS.
- Choose PTE if you type fast, prefer computer tests, need results urgently, or find speaking to a microphone less stressful than an interview.
- Either way — check your specific university's requirement first. We verify this for every student before they book a test.

Our coaching covers all four modules with regular mock tests in the real exam format, personal feedback on writing and speaking, and score-target planning based on the university you're aiming for. Batches run Monday to Saturday at our Jalandhar centre.

How long does preparation take?
Most students need 4–8 weeks of focused preparation depending on their starting level. A diagnostic mock test on day one tells us exactly where you stand.
Can I switch tests midway?
Yes — the underlying English skills overlap heavily. But it's better to choose once, early, based on your target university's list.
